So this place... what a real treat. So it must be said that we have long waited for us to be recognized by the hostess. We were behind two other parties and they also waited, but this place we were looking for, and there is literally nothing for miles and miles and good... So we waited and saw the couple sitting in the front and finally the next. We're on. So the hostess worked her **** in the kitchen and seats. Everybody went around and worked hard. Come to learn them, like all restaurants, had many service personnel call. They're so far out there that they would have called out others at the time to help him that everything was over. So we decided to be patient and use to look around. This...

I wanted to choose a special restaurant for my 200th Yelp Review and The Yearling is the perfect place. Can't believe I never visited this restaurant while I was at UF, but I'm making up for lost time. This is such a unique restaurant in Cross Creek filled with taxidermy and if you're lucky they will have live music playing while you eat. I've stopped in several times now and had venison, grouper sandwiches and cheeseburgers, all of which were excellent. This time I ordered off the lite menu and it was quite filling! I got the blackened Mississippi catfish over cheese grits with collard greens and it came with one of the best hush puppies I've ever had in my life. I highly recommend stopping...

A true hidden gem with history. This place is truly off the beaten path and down the road from Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings' historical farmhouse. Some dishes were hit or miss. Most of ours were hit, though. The Conch Fritters were a little too wet for my personal liking. This was my first time trying gator, and they were pretty tasty! The Fried Green Tomatoes could have used a bit more seasoning, but the homemade sauces served with it helped that. The Pork Ribeye might have been one of the best pork dishes I have ever had (and I've eaten quite a bit of pork around the world, and this is up there! . It was SO flavorful and tender and a very generous portion. The Blackened Red Fish was also incre...

Took a group of around 25 people there today after touring the historic home. I knew they could not accommodate our group seated together as the owner made me aware when I called him. When we got there the owner was so gracious and said he would seat us in smaller groups as quickly as he could. He did that promptly, the last nine of us at one large table knowing that we may have a slight wait; but, drinks were served immediately and our orders taken. We had an amazing waitress and the food was all delicious! You must go there if you have not worth the drive! Thank you again to the manager and staff for a wonderful meal! The restaurant is located in the heart of Fl History and is worth seeing the artifacts in yourself, but you want to stay and eat the wonderful food! Our server was super friendly and welcoming. The fish diving for appetizers is perfectly seasoned and portioned. The shrimps fritted for perfection and the catfish roared perfectly and not too much spices or heat. Laid on a plate of cheeses that were creamy and tasty. The tea is delicious and plentiful. No place for a desert. I think I have to try again later. Oh, honey. Lol. I recommend you try this wonderful piece of Florida history.

A very unique and fun dining experience. Restaurant is located in the middle of a quiet, more residential road with cabins for rent in the back. Interior is filled with old books and taxonomy. They do have a small bar area to get drinks if you're there early. We got the following: grouper, gator tail, frog legs, fried pickles, smoked fish dip. The frog legs tasted like chicken and the gator tail like a chewy pork chop. Everything was excellent, service was also attentive and rapid. Will be back again to try more specialties!

This is off the beaten path, but was a beautiful ride to get there. The building has been around for a long time but is eclectic with a section of taxidermy Florida wildlife and lots of book cases with books. They had a singer with a guitar who was not overly loud so you could still have a conversation. I had a grilled chicken sandwich with tater tots and sweet tea. Service was average and food was good. There is a little gift shop. They also rent cabins.

This is a must see simply for the decor and live music. It added up to a unique experience with excellent service and great food. I didn't know I like venison and gator but now I know. We had the venison dinner and the cross creek platter that included gator bites, frog legs and catfish. The portions were great and everything was delicious! Definitely stop in for some good southern cooking and take in the ambiance as a bonus! Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch

This is a wonderful destination. We ate here while in the cabins next door (2021 2022). The decor is amazing like the food. All of duck, venison, shrimp, gator bites, pork chops, salads and do not forget the desserts. Read the book The Yearling and rent a cabin to really get the feeling of the restaurant. And yes, the books are for sale! I made this an annual tradition. A great place!
