If dining outside, it is recommended to bring sunglasses as the white tent creates an overcast effect. The lunch combo for $21 was very delicious, especially the beef tofu hot bowl served on a sizzling hot plate with a choice of rice. The purple black rice is a standout option. I have been frequenting this restaurant for 8 years as it is close to my workplace. However, due to the pandemic, I have only been doing takeout from here for the past two years. Last week, I decided to dine in again and was finally satisfied with the experience. When I returned today and couldn't finish my meal, I asked for a takeout container. The waiter informed me that there would be a $1.50 charge for the container. Although I agreed, the container was not brought to me, so I had to ask another waitress for it. The service at this restaurant was terrible. Initially, a server and a waitress informed me that my order was not ready. After waiting for 10 minutes, the same waitress told me the same thing. When I inquired further, another waitress explained that the kitchen never received my order because the computer in the lobby was not connected to the kitchen. Although I understood the issue, I was disappointed that the first waitress had not double-checked and simply brushed me off by claiming my order was almost ready. Nice tofu spot overall and we ate so much...because we each had a tofu soup combo (me plus bibimbap, my friend plus beef glass noodle) then we had on top of that another Korean rice cake dish. Total feast and we had a blast. The tofu soups are a little bland, but all the other dishes are quite flavorful. It's a bit hard to find parking in the plaza at peak hours and there was quite a line when we arrived around 7pm on a Saturday. But this is the only tofu house we found that is dog friendly so we stayed. There is a big outside tent that accommodates 10+ tables on top of the indoor space.
The food was excellent. We were given five different types of complimentary banchan. I opted for the spicy tofu soup, which had just the right amount of heat. The portion size was larger than what I have typically seen at other tofu soup establishments. We arrived at 6pm on a Tuesday and were seated immediately, despite the restaurant being busy. The staff was efficient in bringing out our food quickly. Parking in the front lot was plentiful. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed, making it an ideal spot for a meal with loved ones.
Young Dong Tofu House offers a range of stews, including seafood, beef, and pork, along with other menu options. I particularly enjoyed the Beef and Seafood Tofu soup, which had soft tofu and flavorful broth. I recommend trying the purple rice with it. The Rice with Spicy Seasoned Octopus in a stone pot was spicy but not overwhelming. The sides, especially the kimchi, cucumbers, and seaweed, were also a highlight for me. Overall, a delicious dining experience.
We ordered tofu soup and kalbi. The food was mediocre. The service was seriously lacking. The waitress took our order, but the food was brought out by someone from the kitchen. The waitress never came by to check on us. They automatically added a gratuity of at least 15% (with options for 18% and 20%). I still gave them 15%, which they did not deserve. Overall, if you are looking for mediocre food with poor service, then this is the place to go.
This place gives you simple authentic Korean tofu cuisine. The food tastes good, but sometimes it can be very oily. The seat arrangement is like a cafeteria, so is very crowded during the busy hours.
