My partner took the kids and I to dinner here. It was lovely. The atmosphere was so cosy and was like having dinner at a friends place. Big enough for an atmosphere but small enough to still be intimate.Now I have to admit... I have never liked steak, but obviously that's because I'd never had one cooked properly! Dinner was divine, perfectly cooked and so flavourful.Big restaurants may be cheaper but eating in "packed in crowded places" feels (and sounds!) like being at a circus, NOT for me at all!! Let's get all the negative stuff out of the way! You pay for the bread here, a bowl of chips (for 2) was $15 and corkage is $17 wine only. We went instead for their wine list and ordered a 2011 Wynns Black label for $52. We were presented with a 2014 I asked for what was on the wine list which they finally came back with a 2012 there was no 2011 available!We ordered a meat platter for 2 for entree and a scotch fillet and eye fillet for mains and the steak is as good as I have ever tasted. Cooked as ordered and so tender can't say enough about the meat here. We have been to Zagar's a few times now first this restaurant is up a flit of stairs plus it doesn't open until 6.30 to 6 .45 But if your after beautiful charcoal Malley root flavoured meat this is the place for you . The menu is a bit limiting and it never changes. Sometime they have specials on the black board like soup prawnsJapanese style the best thing is the salads that come with mains Potato salad coleslaw and roasted red pepper done over the pit lovely. This restaurant is not for everyone. The menu is limited, there is no ambiance and the prices are high. However they have certainly perfected what they make!Best steak I've ever had!Dinner for 2 set us back $108. We shared tiger prawns for entree. These were cooked to perfection. Delicious.Both had steak for main (scotch fillet?). Steak comes with coleslaw and potato salad on the side. Seriously the best I've had.Both had a drink. Service was good. Came here for an evening of steak, wine and catchup with three mates, and not disappointed on any front. The steaks were excellent, in fact it's hard to remember a better porterhouse. Wine menu was a bit limited, but not bad. Ambience sucks a bit, but we went there for other reasons and we're not at all disappointed. We'll be back.

We go here about thrice/year. $80-90/head with BYO no desert.Two person team. Quiet ambiance.Excellent steaks and Australian prawns from the grill which is fastidiously attended to by the Chef. Never had a bad meal. Sorry to let the secret out but they deserve it.
