This was our 4th Christmas day spent at The Abbey, St. Helens for Christmas Dinner and in my opinion by far the worst. Our Party of 6 were Grandparents, Parents Grandchildren aged 16 through to 67 and we were all very disappointed. In previous years the pub bar wasn 't open to the public and everyone eating were seated in the dining room areas. This year the bar was open and our party was seated in the bar which wasn 't ideal with people sat at high tables having drinks and over looking us whilst we were eating. My wife and I came in for a lovely Sunday roast today.. friends of ours recommended the Abby so we thought we would try it out.. Honestly just wow for start to finish ..we were greeted by the General Manager Gill) who took us to our table, outstanding customer service from all the staff clearly well trained By Gills Management team )once comfortable I ordered our drinks and roast dinner although the Abby was busy we expected a waiting time..honestly the food arrived within 20 minutes ..the food was hot the Yorkshire pudding we're huge the best I've ever seen honestly the roast dinner was absolutely delicious thanks to Jack for his outstanding customer service.. clearly we will be back next w...
Wow Full English Breakfast. If you haven't been for breakfast then your missing out. I actually don't see the point of going to a small café now when you can have a better cooked breakfast in a spacious cosy pub. Would be a great place to meet up, as there's plenty of seating and large tables for big groups . Opens at 9.00am for breakfasts and there something for everyone. This was our 2nd time for breakfast on the way back from a dog walk Dog Friendly Pub and it was really good, you will not be disappointed if you visit for breakfast or for any other food. Hi. We went for Xmas lunch at 3pm. Could not believe my eyes or ears when we walked in. The bar was very very busy rammed actually, so the noise level was dreadful . Not AT ALL the experience of previous years when the bar was closed to the public. I agree 100% in every aspect of what a previous reviewer has written on this subject, and also what he said re the food. I found it ok. The bread with salmon starter was indeed v hard and unable to cut, and the Yorkshire pudding overwhelming . However the main problem was being open to the public !

Went for a family meal just before Xmas. Food and atmosphere both excellent. Great value for Great quality food. Portions and menu choice excellent.Highly recommend. Will definatly be back. New owners are lovely and friendly. Cant wait for our next meal there. Spot on.see you soon
I went to this restaurant for Christmas lunch yesterday and found the food to be excellent with generous portions. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was amazing. I highly recommend dining here and will definitely be returning.
I had a wonderful Christmas dinner at The Abbey. The food was delicious from beginning to end, and the prices were very reasonable. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the staff was extremely helpful. I will definitely be returning next year.
The food at this restaurant was delicious. The staff were very friendly, and I chose the festive menu which I found to be good value for the price. Overall, I had a great experience and thoroughly enjoyed my meal.

Fantastic Christmas lunch. Will be rebooking for next year. Great atmosphere and very attentive staff. Vast improvement since new ownership.
