My boyfriend surprised me with dinner here for my birthday last weekend and it was an amazing, mind-blowing experience. All the pieces of seafood were fresh, succulent, and packed with flavors--all while still tasting clean and light. I'm having a difficult time picking favorites because everything was delicious and special in its own way, but I'd say top 3 for me would have to be: 1) chutoro , 2) sweet shrimp , 3) hairy crab topped with uni and caviar. You need to book a reservation for dinner. This restaurant is fantastic! It is one of the best meals we have ever had. The flavors are comparable to Michelin restaurants we have visited in Japan. The dishes, including Uni, Crab, and caviar, are delicious. The nigiri is superb, thanks to the special preparation of the fresh fish. We particularly enjoyed the wagyu steak plate as the finishing course. They also have a small but excellent selection of sake. We were so impressed with our dining experience that we drove over an hour to go back a couple of weeks later, and it was definitely worth it. Always saw long lines at this place, finally had the opportunity to try it! Barely made it for lunch as this restaurant can sit up to 16 people max. Lunch is walk in only and dinner is reservation only. I recommend getting here before 11AM to secure a spot for their 11:30AM lunch. They also have another lunch round at 1:30PM. For $70 I was shocked how high quality everything was AND 12 courses at that. Beyond worth it and service was impeccable. My favorite was the sweet shrimp, it was a bite of perfection. I had the best meal of my life at this restaurant. It is my all-time favorite and the best omakase I have ever had. I have been to many omakase places, but this one surpasses them all. The menu changes with each season and the head chef travels to Japan four times a year for inspiration and sourcing. AMAZING OMAKASE EXPERIENCE!I Love omakase and I can say this is one of my favourite spots for California. Finally, a place I would like to keep coming back for more!The staff are engaging and I love each dish that was made with details and care! Everything was fresh, unique and beautifully presented!I can’t wait to come here again and the price is worth for its quality! Sushi Yuen is very much on the kaiseki side of dining. I liked the service, decor, dishes and even the little tiny details such a coat warmer and purse hangers.Everything we had was flown in from Japan and the presentation of the food was great. I would definitely recommend sushi Yuen for folks that want a good sushi spot in SGV. They had a little bit of everything to include edomae style tuna. Sushi Yuen doesn't disappoint. Highly recommended!
It's a real hidden gem, quite famous now. I believe anyone once tried their food would be thrilled to have such an establishment on the East side. Chef Ryan presents the finest show case of omakase. The dish is excellent, and all the plates and dishes are in such details. Don't wait. Try it before the price goes up.
