We had remembered being at this place when we were in town a year ago and remembered that we had wanted to order the chicken pot pie but they had run out of the selection that day. So once again we decided to try our luck but we came on a Monday, we learned that these pies are only made on Wednesdays and if any are left over they can be served the following day. However, we each ordered a cup of soup which is adequate and shared the chicken/cherry salad which was plentiful and full of grilled chicken cubes plus a most delicious raspberry dressing. I arrived on a weekday around 10:40 AM with my 90-year-old mother. After waiting about 30 minutes for a waitress to stop sorting silverware, wiping down tables and counters, and refilling a couple of coffees, I became quite frustrated and left. We were never even offered a glass of water. My mother was still hungry, and the slush and snow outside only added to our frustration of having to find another restaurant. It’s safe to say we won’t be returning anytime soon. If I could give negative stars, I would, but since the lowest rating is one star, that’s what they get, along with a strong recommendation to AVOID THIS PLACE!
It was great to get out for Sunday breakfast once more. We took a friend who was visiting for the weekend to this local spot where we've had many enjoyable meals—mostly breakfast—over the years. I thoroughly enjoyed my Corned Beef and Swiss omelette! The others at the table were also pleased with their meals. Our coffee and water glasses were regularly replenished, and our table was cleared while we relaxed after finishing. The service is usually quite good, though it can be a bit inconsistent during busy times, so it's best to be proactive instead of just waiting around.
I belong to an organization that meets weekly, and Alex's is our after meeting go to place. The food is not what one would expect of a family restaurant, It is as close to gourmet as one can get without going to a fine dining establishment.. Alex does a majority of the cooking and takes pride in what he puts out, He even checks with the customers to make sure they are enjoying their dining experience.. The staff and service are exceptional.. They are friendly fast and knowledgeable of the menu items..

What a delightful mid-week morning stop! Alex’s is open, bright and welcoming. The tables and booths are fresh and clean. Our server, Sara was so friendly and accommodating. Menu options and Specials are plentiful. My breakfast was basic without frills, as I requested, and it was very good. Prices are reasonable. Free, ample, on-site parking is a plus as well. I want to return to try lunch or supper!
Throughout the pandemic, this restaurant became a go-to for high-quality takeout. While some customers have criticized the service, I believe they haven't fully taken into account the challenges posed by the situation, including staff shortages and the shift to takeout over dine-in. The food has consistently been well-prepared, and the staff truly does their best given the circumstances.
Alex’s of Berkley has a great selection of sandwiches. We stopped there for lunch, and really enjoyed it. Although it’s more than a sandwich restaurant, it is not fancy. Very clean, and excellent service. This place has kind of a neighborhood feel to it. You know, “where everyone knows your name”.
