Friday night (5/12/23) was my second time at Aoki. It's a small little quaint spot nestled in Downtown La Verne run by husband and wife. I wanted to introduce this hidden gem of a spot to my daughter who is also a foodie! We walked in at 8:30pm and the wife (sorry I didn't catch your name) reminded us they close at 9! We quickly ordered spicy garlic edamame, tuna sashimi, three amigo roll and volcano roll and shortly after our food was brought out! The sushi was super fresh and I'm not big on sashimi but my daughter kept insisting that I try it, so I did! It was like BUTTER! Smooth, clean and no fishy taste whatsoever! Aoki is nestled in Downtown La Verne, and they offer excellent lunch specials with fast service. I really enjoy supporting local small businesses, and this one is definitely a favorite of mine. The miso soup is delicious, perfect for chilly days, while the sushi and cold tea are refreshing in the summer. They also serve a tasty potato salad as a side dish. There’s both indoor and outdoor dining available. The food and service are consistently great, with friendly staff. It's a husband and wife team running the place, and they do an outstanding job.
I want to share my thoughts because I've seen some negative reviews. As a local regular, I can say this is a mom-and-pop restaurant run by a couple from Japan. The food is delicious; while it may not be the absolute best you’ll ever have, it is definitely tasty and of good quality—always fresh. Their bento boxes are only $20, which is a great deal around here. I've been enjoying their food for years. My only complaint is that they close for a few days during each major holiday. Good for them, but not so great for my appetite! Haha!
Awful experience! The katsu was so overcooked that the chicken inside was tough and the crust was burnt and cold—likely a returned dish that was just repackaged for a DoorDash order. It was completely inedible. There were no sauces provided for the tempura, which was also overcooked and greasy. To top it off, the shrimp had a slightly rotten smell. This restaurant used to be great, but now they seem to be just going through the motions. I probably won't be ordering from here again.

Cute little restaurant located in a beautiful area. The business is owned and ran by the cutest couple. The husband makes your sushi rolls himself. The wife is courteous and attentive while taking your order and serving you. Has a great ambiance. They also have a few tables outside so you can see a great view of the people and happenings of the city. Can't wait to go back
I really wanted to try this place, but was disappointed. I ordered a California roll wrapped in soy paper spicy garlic edamame. I was so sad because they really didn't have any flavor. I can usually taste the garlic, but my friends and I weren't able to here. The California Roll was okay. The lady was nice though. Not sure if I'll come back.
I had a terrible experience with the sushi at this restaurant—it was probably the worst I've ever had, and I’m concerned I might get sick. The teriyaki sauce was watered down, and even the ginger was disappointing. I definitely do not recommend this place; it’s overpriced and tastes like grocery store sushi.
Highly disappointed in this place. The food is very bland, at best and not worth the price. We went here because of the reviews and were disappointed. There were no other customers whatsoever at the time, so there isn't really an excuse for the lack of taste.
