Had dinner here again last month. It is so good to come to a place with high expectations and then have them exceeded. Had the set three courses which were each superb. The breads given before the meal were lovely, likewise the local rose wine. Tried the grand marnier soufflé which was perfect also. This auberge is consistently brilliant and very reasonably priced. I so wish that every visit to a restaurant could result in this feeling of happiness.What happened to the parrot: last year we were amused by the parrot dropping wisteria onto people and upending plates and cutlery. He was nowhere to be seen this time. I asked a waiter where he was and he informed me that (Jacquo) had flown away....
This has to be one of best restaurant experiences I've had the pleasure of having. A three course meal in early afternoon served in the most beautiful of locations, right on the banks of the Charente river. The care with which these outstanding dishes were cooked with was very impressive and the pride the chef took in garnering our opinions afterward was commendable. Every course was equally delicious and the service was impeccable. I couldn't recommend this little old fashioned gem of a place highly enough. Simply outstanding!
Why can't we have restaurants like this in the UK? A beautiful setting on the river with easy parking. A sunny day, lunch with four friends in a delightful courtyard. A great three course meal with enough choice to keep everyone happy at a fixed price of 29 euros per person. Friendly, helpful and attentive service despite it being fairly busy. Alas the parrot seems to have flown away but the old friendly boxer still wanders around.
We ate in the courtyard/garden, which is a beautiful setting. The parrot kept the customers amused. Service was attention, polite and friendly. English speaking waiter helped translate the menu. Standard child's dish is Steak and chips. Our food was delicious and very well presented. We were overcharged for eh 50cl bottle of wine. But overall a lovely experience. You need to book this restaurant.

Turned up in Taillebourg for a coffee, but ended up having a fantastic lunch instead! It was a gorgeous sunny day and we sat outside in the courtyard, which was shaded by a grand wisteria. The menu comprised of a selection of fish and meat:- duck, salmon, lamb, sea bass, beef, all beautifully cooked and presented.
We have been lucky enough to go here a few times over the years but it just gets better and better. The standard is first class, with a superb location by the river. A very friendly place that is so good we have to go twice when we are in the area, especially for the Grand Marnier souffle which is excellent.
Celebratory meal at this lovely restaurant next to the charente river. Food excellent and a good choice. Dogs welcomed and they have a friendly dog also. The setting is lovely and is easy to find and parking is also good. Relaxed setting and reasonably priced too.

Once again and another fantastic lunch. Beautiful sunny day, shaded by the wisteria which has come to the end of its flowers, it that didn't detract from the surroundings. Our new favourite restaurant in the area.
Exquisite food served in a lovely setting. Professional service and plenty of choice. Charentais wines provide good value for money. Only in France!
