Where do I begin…. Awash is very authentic Ethiopian food and also atmosphere. Its in Miami Gardens but it definitely gives you that authentic ethnic feeling that you’re apart of the culture Food: 10/10 from the time it took to cone out and also the flavors and spices they use. Everything was great and I wanna say this might take the number 1 spot for me when it comes to different cultures and their food. Lunch at Awash Ethiopian Restaurant, North Miami. While the exterior doesn't make a strong impression, Awash is a warm and family centric restaurant offering excellent and authentic (at least to me) Ethiopian food served and prepared by same. The Asa Gulash consisted of soft and flaky fish chunks in a mildly spiced sauce with Ethiopian Berbere, onions, tomatoes, jalapeño, and peppers superbly well crafted (the jalapeño provided only a whisper of a kick): delicate and aromatic. I had lunch at this amazing restaurant. They offer a selection of vegan options that are genuinely made from scratch, not the processed kind. The injera, made from the superfood teff, serves as the foundation for the meal. All the wots are plant-based. Far too often, vegan choices consist of Beyond burgers or a small house salad, but that’s not the case here. I love this restaurant and will definitely be returning! [hidden link]
I absolutely love Ethiopian food, especially the vegetarian dishes. I used to enjoy it two to three times a week in D.C. However, the food I had for lunch from Awash yesterday was disappointing. It looked unappetizing and tasted like very old leftovers. This was possibly the worst Ethiopian food I've ever had—bland and lacking all the delightful flavors I adore. Great finding in an uncommon place. Amassing family owned business serving tasty, healthy and delicious Ethiopian food. The vibe is calming and true to their culture. The vegetarian combination platter is excellent. Note that, for a small extra charge, you can order injera made only with teff, but give them 24 hours notice. The teff has much more flavor and isn't so bulky as the wheat injera. Get the fresh lemonade! The servers here are always friendly and welcoming, and it's always an enjoyable meal.
The food was incredibly flavorful and satisfying, making for a delightful overall experience. I appreciated the presence of several vegan options, which was a pleasant surprise. I would definitely return!
