The food remains exceptional, with the sausage plate being my top choice. I particularly love the weisswurst. This year, they've introduced some lighter menu items like sea bass and various salads, but you can still enjoy hearty favorites like the delectable spaetzle and schnitzels. One downside is that since a new chef has taken over (after the previous one left unexpectedly), the dishes have been a bit saltier than I remember. In fact, the gravy burned my mouth during their opening weekend due to its saltiness. Won't return. -Beautiful restaurant and setting, but nowhere to sit upon arrival with numerous unoccupied uncleared tables. -This is an order and pay at the register setup with a food runner delivering food to tables. (You are prompted for a full-service tip at the register. -Nobody came back to ask how our food was after it was delivered. -The trout portion was small and thin. The flavor was decent, but not great. The mashed potatoes were bland. This is a fantastic restaurant for authentic Bavarian and German sausages and meals. The service is friendly and quick. I had the pleasure of visiting again with my wife’s uncle and godfather, Walter Ruegg, who was a pioneer in Taos Ski Valley, having built the first lift, known as "Rueggli," along with several others in the following decades. He still enjoys going there to reconnect with his friends who continue to work in the area. He also contributed to the construction of this restaurant. Overall, it’s a wonderful experience, and the atmosphere is as delightful as you would find in Austria, Germany, or Switzerland.
Stopped here with my brother in late May and it was fantastic! We ate outside on the very large porch with a view of Wheeler Peak and other mountains. You order at the bar; the guy running the register when we were there was super friendly and gave us good menu suggestions. The open faced mushroom reuben was excellent, as was the huge soft pretzel and mustards, potato salad, and the Black Mesa winery hard honey apple cider. The outdoor deck offers stunning views of Kachina, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal. I had the exceptional bratwurst and beer for lunch, which was delicious. The overall experience was excellent, with food, service, and atmosphere all receiving a perfect score of 5. I highly recommend trying the Beer Brat. The meal cost around $30 to $50 per person.
We almost always make our way to The Bavarian when we’re in Taos. Located at the Taos Ski Valley, this unique restaurant caters to the skiers as well as drive up diners. The view is spectacular.
