This rustic family restaurant (open only for lunches) offers a hearty lunch in a fixed price and reasonable menu. Starting from local garbure (Basque veg soup) followed by baby trout then duck or lamb or both with chips then local sheep cheese and green salad then dessert! House wines very reasonable and the menu is totally unnecessary! In winter a roaring fire and in summer a terrace by babbling stream! Good parking but really winding road leading further up the mountain. Pas de Roland on the way utterly fabulous with a white water rafting possibility nearby! What a pleasant surprise that this discovery and thanks again to the artisan of the espelette market who advised us this family restaurant. it is already merited by the winding and narrow road that under the sun and lush vegetation of April ideally guides our senses on alert. These are rewarded with the proposed cuisine: copyy, simple, fresh, family. The dishes offered seem straight out of the immediate environment: mountain pastures, the singing river, inherited know-how. the truitelles, what delight! and the lamb! and the jam that accompanies the cheese! and the Basque cake! Why make it complicated when it comes to letting yourself live?
advised by a nice Basque at a spelt terrace, we booked two days before to be sure to be able to eat there.
