The Coup de gras after I ran the Des Moines Marathon: I went down to see Dirt Burger in downtown Des Moines. What I got was the best veggie burger no, the best BURGER I ever had. Why? It was muddy and savory, saucy and full of different textures. It was a perfect mouth. Like a big Mac, only without the disappointing patty and bread in the middle. I know you'll say I forgot and taste like meat. No. I know for some people the ideal burger is a meat patty with fat that runs down your arm. I understand. I have preferred a veggie burger, and I think that is more interesting with many impractical tastes, and it's health food except that with so many whole food ingredients it is somehow. But it fel...
What? The burgers in this place are quite amazing! The volcano was perhaps the best plant-based burger I ever had! The spices, the cripple – everything was enough. I didn't want to share with my husband. He's got the Bel Air. This burger was also great, but we both really preferred the volcano! The fries were good, but nothing special. We liked the minimalist, clean atmosphere. And as they mention on their website, this is a non-pretentious vegan joint. It was pretty busy when we went, and we even saw families with children enjoying the food theirs! They keep their food cheap, what is a good word to play on the name of the restaurant! Here 's a burger even omnivores can enjoy. I 'll admit the name is what caught my attention, but the flavors were way better than the mud pies my sister used to feed me 60 years ago. I tried the Cobra Kai as suggested by the friendly and patient waitstaff. The Asian style toppings made for a great accent to the burger (still not sure what it was made of... . A side of Dirt Balls is a MUST! (Deep fried mashed potato balls with an herby twist I won 't become a vegan anytime soon, but I will gladly return to Dirt Burger.
A must stop! I was in town for a few days, but I went from this place and had to stop the next day. I'm not vegan, but wanted to try anyway and wasn't disappointed. I ordered the original dirt castle on fresh green instead of the bungalow and it was great! Staff and property are very friendly and the environment is very cool! I highly recommend it!
good food, friendly staff, lovely area!! the literal only things that made me give 4 instead of 5 stars was that i wish their salads had protein options. like a vegan chicken strip or something. but the place IS called “dirt burger” so i get that people don’t go for the salads… i guess it woulda just made the menu more complete in my opinion.
GOOD AND CHEAP! it’s so rare to find a cheap vegan spot thats amazing but this place really has it all! Tried their original dirt burger, dirt balls with tiger sauce, and a vanilla cone for dessert. Kinda disappointed on the ice cream. Lacked sweetness, but was only $2 so I’m not mad about it.
A Hidden Gem in Downtown Des Moines. I was shocked that the burgers were great the salad was excellent and you have to try a Vegan Soda. The whole restaurant was spotless. They take great pride in what they're doing. I love that. We would definitely go back again again and again.
Found this place with magic while on a road trip and ensured that back on the way back. Tested the volcano and the chicago burgers, probably some of the best vegan burgers I ever had. The mangoshake and the North African salad are also great.
Everything was fantastic. The Chili cheeses were exactly what I believed. Just the right amount of spice. The Volcano Burger, Dirt Balls and Shake were all amazing. Good food for vegan and non-vegans alike.
