This place was actually recommended by a friend who came into town with me. We both decided to go get some food and it was such a lovely day we decided to sit outside. The inside is a nice modern atmosphere but earthy feel at the same time. With a nice long bar that extends in an l-shape around the inside of the building. Outside there's a nice seating area with gravel underneath your feet and several different ways of sitting with either bench seating or circular tables with a standard stools. They did have a nice cover over most of the outdoor area to keep you out of the sun or the tables had sun umbrellas to help and that was why we chose to sit outside. I recently tried the Papas Verde taco at Donkey Taqueria, and it was fantastic! This potato/sweet potato taco topped with sour cream, queso fresco, onion, and cilantro on a corn tortilla was the best vegetarian taco I've had in Grand Rapids. The atmosphere adds to the experience, especially with their unique window wall that opens to an outdoor seating area, perfect for enjoying the summer weather. The service was also great, making it a delightful dining experience overall.
Stopped in last night as it had been quite some time since I'd visited. I remember donkey always having consistently great food lots of flavor and soul. Seems like much has changed as the tacos and guac were souless and bland. The salsa and pickled veggies (way too much sugar in that brine) lacked as well. Honestly, a major dissapointment. Perhaps it was an off night or they're in a transition period between chefs, I'm unsure.
Yo Donkey, I’m really happy you have the brussies taco, and Ima order it every time I visit, but the barbacoa taco was one of the best tacos of all time. One of the best flavors of all time. I remember being 37 years old, visiting Donkey for the first time and ordering the barbacoa taco, and it was one of the most exciting tacos I’ve eaten in my life.

Food is tasty, same as drinks , all in small portions , good for a quick bite , lunch , late snack or craving . Like the location atmosphere. Queso fundido is my fave and the one thing in their menu crave. Margaritas to small for what I am used to getting back in Mexico City . But they tasty .
The food is good, but there was a bit of a wait before we were even approached by the staff, which was unexpected considering it was a slow time of day.
Didnt get food, drinks were really small portions. They don't do frozen margaritas. Great place tp get out and try something new.
Great atmosphere. The servers at the bar were a vibe! Had a beer and the chicken sandwich that was delicious!
