Old pub that has had a face lift with the upstairs rooms done out in a art deco style. From what we saw each room was different in styling. Good size room with comfy bed and a mid size bathroom. Only complaint was low water pressure and hard to set a constant water temperature. Downstairs is 'trendy pub' with live 'unplugged' style music on two of the nights we stayed. The music could be heard in one of the two rooms we had, so I suggest getting second floor rooms if you are noise sensitive. Food in the pub section was very good. Lots of local coffee shops and restaurants and a few second hand stores with a good range of merchandise. (Some good vinyl!) You can walk to Carlton if you are keen...
When I booked this hotel I didn't realise it was a pub but once we arrived we were very happy we booked it.The rooms are funky. The bathroom very good- great decor and a massive shower head.The room was surprisingly quiet.The pub downstairs was nice. There are many restaurants and bars around.There is no bar fridge in the room and no parking but there is plenty of on street parking.We did notice that it was cheaper to book the room on the hotel website rather than booking sites
Old school pub gets flash makeover but still delivers value meals. Called by for quick catch-up and saw the Tradies Lunch special. Fantastic value at $12 with soft drink or $15 with beer or a wine. Steak Sanga, schnitzel sanga, chicken Parma or mushroom burger. Decent meals with fries. Our group tried the lot and have returned since for the beers. Lunch from noon to 3. A la cartel menu has plenty of options too if you want the full monty. Will return.
Got a corker of a feed. Slammed down some polenta chips which are fried lightly, got the mushroom burger for a main and got 3 x whisky shots for a desert. All the staff are lovely and are really into cool stuff. One of the managers (Bresland I think) is currently the 4th ranked Jenga champ of north east Victoria. Ask for a photo with him and you will receive a kids meal for $4.99 with a side of Fanta

Fantastically renovated pub with great character. Friendly, helpful staff who provided timely service. The chicken schnitzel was enormous and really yummy with a salsa verde sauce. Big pile of chips and a very tasty feel coleslaw. Couldn't finish it! Also very interesting range of drinks. I'll be back!
Chains on the door and bar emptied ... very sad news. Looks like bills not paid and building owner taken possession. Was such a good place, hope problems can be resolved and it reopens soon.
Stumbled upon this fantastic hotel for lunch. Tradie's lunch menu is brilliant! Only $12, including a drink. I had the biggest, tastiest parmi I've ever had. The friendly service

Freshly renovated hotel with a spacious bar area and good quality food at a reasonable price. Worthy of another visit.
We had a fabulous meal.I would highly recommend the Veal Stuffed Olives and the Potato cakes for starters.
