I decided to try this place on a whim and found it to be good, but no where near the best. The table service here is a welcome touch. Please note that you pay after you have eaten, and they only accept cash. There is an ATM on location, but frankly I would be VERY weary of using it expensive fees or worse may be waiting in store. The sauce on my cheese enchiladas was excellent, it had a great depth of flavor that was slightly spicy but not overpowering. I thought the amount of cheese was just right, although the overall size of the enchiladas is not too big. The rice on the other hand was a bit of a letdown. El Ruby is a longstanding tradition. I remember visiting El Ruby as a young student in the early 1960s when I lived in Southern Glendale. It was a larger restaurant back then, and it served the most delicious salsa fresca I have ever tasted, with hints of garlic, cilantro, and oregano in a sweet, spicy, thick tomato sauce. The tacos deshebrada had tender, flavorful meat with crumbles of excellent cotija cheese. The Mexican food at this restaurant is delicious! They offer a few egg plates for breakfast and a wide selection of lunch and dinner options. All the dishes were served generously. The carnitas were tender and full of flavor without being greasy. The carnitas sope was particularly amazing! The gordita was thin, which I preferred, and loaded with meat, refried beans, cabbage/lettuce, cheese, and crema. The carne asada was tasty and tender, not dry at all. The food is good. I ordered the Chile relleno and was not disappointed. The mole is sweet and delicious. They have quite a number of seafood options. I always make sure to stop at this restaurant every time I visit Glendale. I never leave without ordering my favorite dish, the cemita de milanesa. Even though I come from the San Fernando Valley, I can't resist trying something new from their menu because everything is delicious.
This has always been a great cozy place to experience a great meal owned by a cute little couple who is sweet and they also serve beer now lol.
Great delicious tasty and value food served with chips and salsa chips were fresh as well, coming back when in the area
