Fico is simply a must if you’re visiting Hobart. The venue is a mix of art deco, industrial and quirky. Absolutely loved the vibe. Service was attentive without being too warm. It was a perfect mix of being there just enough without being over bearing. Fig tonic delicious. Great way to kick off your evening. Wonderful wine list with lots of interesting choices and knowledgeable somms wait staff. The food all incredible. This place is a wonderful find. Quite spacious but with relatively little seating, it’s intimate but without the epic price tag that often involves. We started with the sourdough with fig leaf oil and balsamic careful, these thick slices of warm sourdough are almost a meal in themselves! For entree with had the ballotine brioche game terrine baked inside brioche loaf with game jus. It was meaty, earthy and delicious. Then for our main we had potato tortelli with eel and chervil which was quite the revelation. The inspiration is Japanese Italian and it was the perfect blend of the two flavour palates. Beautiful ambience and decor. I loved the little details such as the little fish craved into the wooden table. The art piece on the wall of a face made out of wood with animals and vegetation.<br/ <br/ Service was friendly and food was delicious. I have held the view that the feeling of satisfaction that one gets on leaving the restaurant is a great indication of the quality of the food. At Fico's, I realised that the restaurant's ability to make one forget the flow of time, might be another yardstick. Indeed, at Fico's, service flowed like the good wines accompanying their oh so exquisitely executed degustation menu. The flavours and textures dances and excites the pallet, going from subtle to vibrant across the journey. My wife and daughter absolutely loved the experience! Delicious food of a wide variety, all beautifully prepared. My favourites were the scallops, the bee pollen butter and the quail egg. $120 for the degustation menu with the options of extra courses also. Serving sizes were perfect, I left feeling pleasantly full. My only complaint would be that the parmigiano risotto was in the chewy style, but this is just a personal preference and the taste was still great. Would go again.
The photos don’t really do Fico any justice. Everything about this place was amazing. The food, service, drinks and atmosphere were all wonderful. If I’m ever back in Hobart again I will definitely be going back here to see what else they have created. Each dish was packed full of flavours and absolutely delicious. Huge shout out to the wait staff, they did a fantastic job as well.
Lunched here a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful dining room. 2 waitresses both really nice. Smiled the entire time. I had 2 starters, the fish was amazing, served in a soy sauce jelly, very clever. Potato tortelli also good, clean simple and light. Nice bit of eel dried on top gave it texture, smokyness and salt. Wine choices by the glass really good. Highly recommend this place.
Wow!! Definitely one to eat at if in Hobart. The food and wine pairing degustation is worth doing. Be sure to book in advance. Non-pretentious restaurant with fantastic food and service. Hands-down the best restaurant experience we have ever had. The most gorgeous food and brilliant customer service! To top it off, incredible wine. We loved being able to see the head chef and his team doing their thing in the open style kitchen. Top quality place. Highly recommend. Thank you guys!
