Way better than 'average '. Oil clean. Very good crisp chips. Some criticism of their potato cakes on this page. As a newish Altona resident have probably bought a feed at Civic about 20 times; never had a soggy or disappointing potato cake. Fish much better than an average fish and chip shop. Genuinely fresh calamari strips (non of the reconstituted rubbish that is so common in other places). Magnificent scallops and can get beautifully fresh oysters.
We came across this restaurant by chance while looking for fish and chips by the beach in Altona. We didn't realize it was so well-regarded. Everything was excellent. The grilled flake and blue gren fish were outstanding, as were the potato cakes. The prices for fish and chips were reasonable considering the quality of the food. We will definitely be returning.
This fish and chip shop is my all-time favorite. The establishment is clean, service is excellent, prices are fair, the fish is always fresh, and the portion sizes are just right. I highly recommend trying the grilled barramundi and the Hamburger with everything – they are both amazing choices. Overall, I highly recommend dining at this restaurant.
