I had Gus's chicken in Memphis TN about a week prior to coming to this location. I was hoping everything was the same...it pretty much was. The chicken and fried green tomatoes were on point. Just like they were in Memphis. I did not have greens, baked beans, Mac or coleslaw in Memphis but I did try them at this location. I would not order any of those again. The greens were very salty and tasted like they were cooked in Chicken broth. The Mac was not good, definitely a frozen product. Could have been better with a little seasoning. Was in Detroit for a funeral and decided to check out the World Famous Gus's Hot Spicy Chicken ? ? ? .Walked in on a Monday afternoon, which was not busy at all. Was immediately welcomed and greeted with a smile ?. They asked if we were dining in and told us to sear ourselves.Immediately was a greeter came over and gave us menus and drinks.Once food was ordered, it came out surprisingly fast, hot, great... no complaints. Chicken was crispy, juicy, and seasoned to perfection ? ?Can not say anything but wonderful things about Gus's!!!!If you’re EVER in Detroit, it is a must !!
Every time I come to Detroit I grab some Gus's. My cousin that lives here recommended them and he is a trained chef, so you know I had to follow his suggestion! Gus's dies not disappoint. The atmosphere is friendly and laid back, but kind of back home/back yard/family cook out comfy. The food is BANGING! Chicken is fried perfect with just the right amount of kick and the fried green tomatoes are a fave of mine! I don't drink, but you can have a beer at the bar while you wait. This place is awesome. Update 5/14/23: As a family we hadn't been here in about 4 years. For a Mother's Day, I thought it might be a bit busier. Be prepared that it will be a little chilly. They keep it cool inside. You will also be charged an extra ,75 for ranch dressing. Food took a while to be served but that might have been a staffing issue. There wasn't a lot of staff present, i.e. there was one waitress. The chicken was really hot and tasted fresh. The okra was warm. The greens were really good. Our waitress was very friendly.
By far the Best fried chicken the flavor is amazing, the fried green tomatoes omg, have i missed those. And i introduced my friend to okra... okra has found a new friend... too full for now, but can't wait to try the chocolate chess pie. It was worth the detour to check out. Highly recommend. The service was friendly and great, the manager came to our table and was truly interested in our experience. This being the reason for my first ever yelp review.
Restaurant was nice and clean . Order the 3 piece dinner . Potato salad was excellent. The season fries were amazing. Baked beans was good. The chicken was amazing. The Mac and cheese could’ve stayed in the kitchen , wasn’t good but other than that good good food . Definitely will be back again when i visit Detroit.
I always can get a decent square meal here, but their already lofty prices went up another +20%...Fried chicken not a luxury item.4 pc tender plate with 2 sides now well over $16.50 from a previous $13.50.. I know about cost increase, but this gonna kill their business sadly.
Really good chicken. Only seems to come spicy but not overly. I’ve been here a half dozen times and the chicken always seems to be a tad overcooked. But it’s still some of the best store-bought you’ll find.Food: 5/5
It's a spicy chicken place, so I was recommended the tenders because they're the least spicy thing. So I got them. They were spicy but not to spicy. The Mac Cheese was dope n so was the baked beans. ?.Food: 4/5
