My daughter's and I brought my husband here for Father's Day dinner. While the atmosphere is very nice I cannot same the same for the food or service. Very disappointing! First, I asked for my burger to be cooked well done. It was not. Totally raw so I had to send it back. Something I don't usually do but I could not eat it. My fries were cold. I did not bother to mention that to the waiter. Next, one of my daughters ordered the taco's and truffle fries. When the food came she reminded the waiter nicely about the truffle fries. When I looked for fine dining in NJ and this restaurant came up I was excited because we have been to most of the others. Welll there is NO fine dining here other than the wait staff!!!! We had an amazing experience at HALCYON Montclair. I organized a bridal shower that was flawless from beginning to end. The staff was attentive, friendly, engaging, and extremely helpful. The food was beautifully prepared, plentiful, and absolutely delicious. Many guests raved that the chicken was the best they had ever tasted, others said the salmon was phenomenal, and a few couldn't stop talking about the pasta. We have visited Halcyon many times before. The service is wonderful. We are regularly impressed by the waitstaff. Generally, the food is also outstanding. However, on our recent visit, we found some of our favorite dishes to be a bit off. Most disappointing was the ambiance. At a nearby table, a child (probably somewhere between 5-7) was watching an iPad while two adults and what appeared to be a somewhat grown child sat with them. The iPad was so loud, we could hear every detail above other tables, fairly loud music in the restaurant, and people at the bar. We had a wonderful time celebrating a friends special birthday here last week. The bar area is very elegant, and we each had a cocktail before dinner, (love the espresso Martinis) The food was wonderful, they always have a lovely, very fresh oysters, which was what we started with. The Paella was delicious, and is plenty for two people. Everyone loved their food, and the service was great. We sat in the booth style table, which accommodated 5 of us easily, and even though the restaurant was full, we could easily hear each other! This place has never disappointed, I highly recommend!
Charming, luxurious, and undeniably high-end! I adored the atmosphere! Despite the restaurant being almost full, we were able to enjoy a private dining experience in a cozy corner. The service was efficient and the food was excellent! However, the kimchi fried rice wasn't to my liking, possibly due to my Indo-Chinese taste preferences. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience!
Party upstairs, trio playing downstairs...made it hard to hear and talk. Appetizers were excellent. Wine was good and moderately priced. Entrees were mediocre..4 scallops served on a melange of some type of vegetables was pretty tasteless. Tuna was beautifully cooked but had too much spice/pepper. I'll go again and sit at the the beautiful bar and have wine and appetizers.
Air conditioning not great here, otherwise great food, atmosphere, etc. I mean, if I'm dropping $400+ on dinner and drinks... we shouldn't all be wiping sweat off ourselves. Asked server, nothing done.

A good venue to go for a regular date night. Value for money. Substance in seafood. Found the appetizers tasteful. The Paella entree had quality ingrediants but taste was mediocre.
The food was fantastic, the drinks were amazing! I will definitely be returning. The atmosphere is lovely too.
