I'd like to start off by saying the food came quite quickly, which was an upside- HOWEVER, after ordering my Hawaiian pizza, I realized I had made a big mistake. Hawaiian pizza is made up of a dough crust, tomato sauce, ham pieces, and pineapple rings or chunks. WELL i might as well have ordered a whole pineapple! And a pig as well! The slabs of ham were bigger than my head, the pineapple "chunks" were not at all "chunks", I nearly choked god knows how many times trying to get them down my throat. Don't even get me started on the cheese.. if that's what it was! There wasn't enough of it to tell! Shame about this as I was very excited for my food because the restaurant smelt like garlic from...
Used to really rate this once-pumping place. Unfortunately it appears to have changed hands and is now more downmarket- for example relying too much on that ubiquitous balsamic glaze to finish dishes. Last visit was on a Saturday night after seeing a film at the sun - We arrived at about 8.45 and ordered pretty quickly...the place was emptying out soon after and the waiter was all but marching us out the door an hour later...clearly this place is less popular now than it used to be and the staff just wanted an early night. A bit lame for a Saturday night though!
I am a local so have been here before years ago and was underwhelmed. Decided to give it another go and now it's on my favorites! The menu was varied and had a lot of choice. I chose the spaghetti marinara which was filled with fresh tender prawn, fish and scallops and perfectly cooked pasta with a perfect balance of olive oil, tomato and chili. My husband said his steak was perfect. Service also good.
This is a great place. Sure it is a small and can be a bit noisy BUT the food is very very good. The night we visited we were delighted by the attentive and somewhat theatrical service from Remy. The food was delicious and if it was not a school night I would have indulged in a Salted Caramel Espresso Martini. Wandered into L'Uccellino on a cold Melbournne night. Warmly Greeted by wonderful Remy (just like the French Brandy). Treated to a delicious meal of duck confit, baked gnocchi and awesome pizza. Ambiance is really warm, inviting and charming. Well done team L'Uccellino.
We chose this place because from the street it had the nicest ambience. We were greeted with a waiter who met all our requests with a smile! The calzone, marinara & risotto were delicious as was the pudding too! Thumbs up
What is going on here? People say this place is amazing but it's just average pizza that is expensive. Absolutely overrated, save your money and go elsewhere!
