We’ve been frequenting Maru Sushi for several years now, and we've noticed that the quality of the food has varied with changes in ownership. One of our favorite dishes is the tempura. A few days ago, we ordered a large tempura platter for over $17, which included a mix of fish, calamari, and our favorite—vegetable tempura. We were quite disappointed by how they sliced the potato into such tiny pieces. Instead of a generous portion of yam or potato tempura, we received four minuscule servings. It's quite cheap, to say the least. The batter didn’t adhere properly on one side, while the other side was thick and clumpy. When we picked it up, it felt almost weightless. What are we really paying...
I would consider this restaurant to be just average for a vegan and sushi. The atmosphere, location, and setting are all 5 stars. The food was just ok. Their best item in my order was the veggie sonomono salad. Good presentation and flavour, but they didn't incorporate the veggies at all into the dish, and they were stale. The miso soup was ok. The vegetable roll was pretty spartan, and the rice very dry. A couple had to beg for the server to come over to their table after waiting for at least 10 minutes. We were the only customers there, though they were working on a number of take aways. I would not be likely to return or to recommend them. Sorry. My rating is actually 2.5.
One of my favorite sushi places anywhere... love coming to the west coast and finding decent real crab sushi in a small town mall sushi restaurant. Most of Ontario sushi joints use the fake crab-flavoured replacements. Loads of seating here, friendly staff, ample menu options and we'll presented. The price point is not unreasonable and overall I'd come again, and I plan to the next time I visit the Wack!
Don't get me wrong, I don't think the sushi was bad, but it wasn't anything to write home about. Maybe it's because I live in Vancouver, and have access to so many amazing sushi restaurants, but I found thia place just average and about double the prices of what I'm use to. One thing I was amazed by was the salad we ordered. Average and overpriced is my final statement about this place.
I returned to Chilliwack for work and decided to have lunch at Maru Sushi. This time, I ordered the sashimi box, and it was excellent. The presentation was impressive, the service was outstanding, and the food was delicious, all contributing to a delightful dining experience. I highly recommend Maru Sushi if you're in the area.
Best sushi in town. But... Just be aware of their online/phone in order time. They have gone from 'on time ' to '15 mins later ' and now I am waiting 30 mins after they said it was going to be ready. Tricky though...they don 't elk you til after you paid and sent them the tip. Scratch that....it 's been 45 mins!
EXCELLENT! We ordered take-out for Christmas Eve 2020, and every dish was FRESH, expertly prepared, and thoughtfully crafted. Their Covid safety measures are outstanding, and I felt very safe during my brief wait for our order. Maru is now our go-to spot for sushi take-out. Thank you very much!
Just tried this place for the first time.. The special rolls we got were really yummy but the basic rolls were not very good. The yam roll was like rubber. The service was ok, the waitress brought our food and never came back. The next time I'm in Chilliwack I won't try this place again.
Nothing wrong with the food but the service is a little lacking. They don't come and check on you and they tend to forget things a lot. I do enjoy the restaurant. The atmosphere is nice and warm feeling. It's in a great location.
