Stopped at Morgan Mae's Oyster House during an afternoon drive through Tarpon Springs today...what a pleasant place! First of all, they're dog friendly which allowed us to enjoy a relaxing outdoor table with our buds. Add to that a super friendly staff to chat with and great service and it's hard not to enjoy yourself! Good people, good food, good music. Now the food: first, a beer on tap for me, a Manatee Mule for my human friend, and a dish of water for the beasts.Just an afternoon nibble, so we shared a delicious clam chowder, an appetizer of fried calamari with peppers ???? and a dozen oysters with blue cheese and garlic. Incredible! Truly...it was all delicious but the blue cheese oyste...
Went Saturday evening for the concert....and was sat INSIDE so no seeing the concert. Music playing inside so you got a crazy mix of both the inside music and outside band. Was going to order the birthday special oysters but noone could tell us what they were other than its our special for the day, just how they made them I guess! . Oysters were overcooked and rubbery. No seasoning in the boil I ordered and the sweet tea never made it to our table, thankfully we did receive water when we were sat. Get the check and were overcharged, not given the birthday special pricing. Aside from the fact that this restaurant needs a face lift (bar tables outside are disgusting, the bar itself is dirty and no one cleans after each patron) overall this place LOOKS like a dive and the service is inexcusably bad. We waited 15 minutes at the outside bar to even be recognized or greeted, another 15 minutes to get our drinks and our appetizer never arrived at all. It was relatively early and the place wasn't very busy. The bartender Andrew NEVER apologized for any of this, which made us think it was normal. We decided to dine somewhere else and won't come back.
I typically only leave reviews for restaurants that are either exceptional or terrible. I have visited Morgan Mae's a few times over the past few years and have always enjoyed their oysters. However, during my most recent visit, I tried the steamed shrimp and it was absolutely delicious. Don't let the negative reviews deter you - I recommend sitting at the bar, enjoying a drink, listening to live music, feeling the ocean breeze, and indulging in their fantastic food. Great service especially for how busy it was on a Wednesday lunch hour. The shrimp po'boy was delicious huge. The crab cake sandwich was surprisingly small, but the heaping pile of sweet potato fries made up for it. We tried the little oysters that were $1.50 each today. Overall, we had a great experience. I look forward to going back to try the famous Dinner items next time.
Great atmosphere, staff, and food! We were able to get a table right away on a Friday night at 8pm. They had wonderful live music and an attentive staff. Great drink options and they have some coleslaw and potato house appetizers that come after you order. Our food was well cooked and seasoned. We will definitely be back!
I'm disappointed to share that Morgan Mae's has made the decision to no longer carry any Budweiser products. We used to enjoy this local bar/restaurant and are saddened by this change. It's a shame that beer has become a political issue. Unfortunately, we won't be returning to Mae's.

The bartender at this restaurant was extremely friendly, professional, and had fantastic hair! In addition, the food was outstanding. I am particular about seafood, but the bacon-wrapped scallops were phenomenal.
