When we arrived at the restaurant (we were the first guests of the evening) we were greeted by a wonderful server who gave excellent service through an absolutely ridiculous ordeal. I have nothing but good things to say about our server! Chef/Owner on the other hand was another story. Appetizers were fine . When I ordered the $40.00 fillet of beef medium rare and it arrived medium by my standards, I sent it back to the kitchen. Chef refused to cook another serving. I have eaten at restaurants all over the world and NEVER have I been insulted like this. I don't know if Chef thought I had just rolled off the turnip truck or was some tourist that would probably never return but I am a resident...
Ganges always a favorite stop on our boat but had been fine dining at Hastings House at least 3x and looking for somewhere new. House Piccolo recommended by locals and just a short walk up from marina was wonderful! Only open Wed-weekend small bistro in a converted house. Excellent wine list and well prepared menu selections. Warm scallop and shrimp salad had a nice curry flavor. Venison and halibut main entrees both prepared perfectly. Being Wed only had one server on the floor. She did as well as she could being host, bar tender, wine steward, server and busboy. Consequently pacing was a little off and slower than would be considered normal. This is small restaurant with traditional look and feel. The service was great. Host took to the time to explain the dishes and additional small talk. Felt at home. The food was good with no comments. If you want to spend a nice and relaxing evening in Ganges this is the place.
