There is no signage on the patio that states that you need to wait to be seated. We watched as several people chose tables. So we found the easiest accessible one for my walker to access. Within moments a waitress asked us if we had reservations. I said no and we were chastized for not checking in at the entrance to the restaurant. I offered to move but she said that if they were busier that we would have to wait. I apologized and told the waitress that I had not seen a sign that said we needed to wait to be seated. Could not believe the rudeness.We were on the patio, no liquor could be served where we were seated. I got the feeling that because of this, we were unimportant. No liquor, no se...
It's generally understood that restaurants do get busy around popular meal times, right? So why did our waitress try to explain a 45 minute wait for simple lunches by telling us they were unprepared for people arriving around 11:45 am for a sunny Friday lunch? When we questioned that, we were told that three-quarters of an hour was a standard wait time after ordering, and that if we wanted prompt service, we shouldn't have chosen this restaurant. I guess they have their own standards, but it would have been helpful to be told that up front. It was clear the poor woman was overwhelmed by the expectation that she demonstrate some semblance of friendliness, service orientation, or any attention...
If I could only have one meal on Salt Spring Island, I would have it here. They offer all 3 meals during the day. The menu was nicely varied, and the surprise for us was the kale slaw, so don't overlook the sides. Alcohol is not served at the tables setup outside, so at busy times, you may need to wait. However, adjacent shops prevent boredom. This was the only restaurant of the 4 we tried where we had a second meal, our last one before we caught the ferry to begin our trip home. Note: if you are tall, be careful not to hit your head on the tree in the center of the cozy dining room!
My wife, her friend and I went for lunch. I ordered the Lamb Gyro. I normally get my food without Tomato's as I am not a fan. Forgot to do this with the Gyro even still it was incredible. Lamb was seasoned well. Tzatziki was good and the bread was warm. The Kale salad was very good as well not overdressed.I washed it all down with a Red Arrow Lager or two. My wife had the Thai Peanut Chicken and Greens. She couldn't eat all of it so I finished it for her. Went on advice from a friend....and was perfect. Food was awesome. A bit odd with the door girl saying "I am not tour server" In an odd and wierd tone. But otherwise awesome.
The food was great! We had the tuna and steak tacos. Our server was very friendly but the hostess wasn't as friendly. We will definitely be back!
