Writing this review is difficult as the Skyline is a fixture in downtown Trenton and has an interesting history. But that should not be an excuse for poor food. Established some 73 years ago it is still owned and operated by the same man. He is 94 and works there everyday. We had the honor of meeting him too. The decor of the place has not really changed in that time and while that can be viewed as a negative it has reached the point where it is a novelty. Looking around at all the old counters, floors, juke boxes, utensils and equipment you half expect Rod Serling to appear and give you a preamble to one of his episodes which you have become a star of. Jimmy's has remained unchanged in the back for over a decade, with the staff focusing on serving their regular customers. The menu has stayed the same, with the exception of prices, and will likely remain that way. The quality of the food is up for debate, given that this is more of a diner than a restaurant, with just a line cook in the kitchen. Stick to simple options like the soup and chicken salad sandwich, as ordering a steak here may not be the best idea. Breakfast is quick and greasy, with the standout being the salt shaker. Went to this restaurant upon recommendation, Not impressed, Walked in and the space is not open and inviting.Looks crowded due to booth set up. Told to sit anywhere, I went for breakfast. Got my coffee, it took a while for my breakfast. Was never offered a refill or any follow up to find out if my breakfast was ok. When party of 3 arrived next to me, they got their breakfast quickly, I had to get their waitress attention to get a cup of coffee. Still no follow up from my waitress for the bill, I had to go to the cash to pay for my meal.
This is an old restaurant diner style with the juke box stations at every table. The old red spin around seats at the bar along with that old grease spoon diner smell. Everything cooked here is great. Really good breakfast and there is a greek flare to some of the items as the owner is Greek. Very reasonable pricing on all the menu items so it is great for families.
Well I will start by saying g this restaurant has been here for a very long time. One owner, Jimmy he goes into the restaurant every day! It is nothing to look at really but the food is delish. Any time you go in you will get good food.and the prices are pretty good. The saff are friendly.
Not much to look at but the food was delicious and the price was right. $5.25 for sausage and eggs. Eggs were cooked perfectly. My wife had an omelet which she enjoyed. Coffee was perfect. The owner came out to our table to talk. Quite a lovely experience.
We have eaten there often over the years. Mostly breakfast and it is alway bang on. I have had burgers and fish and chips there as well. It has always been very good. The service is excellent.
OMG - I don't even know where to begin when it comes to this place. I grew up in Trenton and have frequented this restaurant often during my formative years.
Old furniture, small uncomfortable booths. Place smells dirty. Can not recommend it at all. There are other resturants of much better caliber close by.
