We live in the village and used to go to La Cascade regularly. The food is good if unimaginative. I liked the lamb which was tender. My husband had a bad steak tartare. The restaurant is central, busy and has a roadside outside terrace. Not the best view in Villecroze but lovely on a hot day. The reason we stopped going however was the feeling that Martine was unfriendly. Despite seeing us and recognizing us as regulars, she never once spoke to us or acknowledged us so we've taken our custom elsewhere. She has her favorites but not us unfortunately.
First, I made the mistake of stopping at one of the other restaurants in the square (which shall remain nameless). After waiting for what felt like an eternity to have a glance at the menu in fact, long enough for me to fear that they wouldn't be able to serve me lunch before the 14:00 deadline I up and left. I then wandered into La Cascade and was immediately greeted and treated with great hospitality. And the meal was even better or at least just as good as the service!
When we were heading for a week in Provence, I was hoping we might find that elusive set of circumstances a really nice typically french restaurant nestling under platane trees, a nice bar close by for a few beers before our meal, and a...load of old guys playing boules. And here it was the whole deal! and a super meal, far from over-priced. And a gentle stroll back to a fab little hotel in the Vieux Village (Villacroze). About as perfect as you could get.
We were wanting to try a different restaurant in Villecroze so decided to try this restaurant. As we walked in the waitress promptly showed us to a table. As we sat down a cat jumped off a chair at our table. We were given the...menus basic, grubby laminated ones. When the waiter came to bring us some nibbles we decided that this restaurant wasn't going to offer us the dining experience that we were looking for so explained the situation and left. Martine is one of the most friendly restaurant owners in the village and local area.Her food is always good and even though not terribly adventerous you rarely get a bad meal. I think in the winter time this restaurant is always cosy and enjoyed by lots of local people which is always a good sign.Set menu is very good value and the fish and chips is excellent for 12 euros !
very pleasant personal, a very good welcome a great thank you to the cook who takes the time to prepare dishes with fresh and home products that is very pleasant, it was delicious.
Carefully chosen ingredients by the chef-owner means this and its companion restaurant “Sous Les Platains” are excellent places to enjoy the French experience.
