After quite a chaotic start at the front door and being almost overrun by the waiting staff we landed in a beautiful and serene dining hall. Staff was friendly and clearly did their best, but most of them were obviously quite inexperienced and/or untrained. Chaotic feeling in the service continued throughout the evening and just isn 't acceptable in a 2* restaurant. Chef Grandits personally brought the amuse bouche to the table and wished us a nice evening. I think that was a nice touch. Food was beautifully presented and of high quality. We were greeted at the front entrance and without any option, were seated outside on the terrace. The terrace itself was spacious and beautiful but: 1)The summer heatwave made it difficult to enjoy without being completely drenched in sweat by the end of the meal. Others had similar problems and were left fanning with the menu card and alike. This could have been anticipated. 2)Even more disruptive, the frequent and loud tram noise interrupted many of our conversations. Although the restaurant is not at fault, one can imagine that this should be addressed and corrected. We are loud people and usually don't mind being in a lively area, but this was too much. Wunderschöne Lage in einem der besseren Viertel in Basel, altes Haus mit hohen Decken, sehr schön renoviert und dekoriert. Sehr schöne Atmosphäre. Essen ist sehr gut. Spargel Amuse Bouche und Coquilles St. Jacques waren ausgezeichnet. Auch Rippen waren sehr gut. Lamm war leider nicht gut, sehr stark Lammgeschmack. Lemon Wüste war ausgezeichnet. Insgesamt sehr gutes Essen. Sehr schlechte Wahl des Weines durch das Glas, die Qualität, die sie bieten, ist wirklich nicht das Niveau des Restaurants. Service ist nicht auf der Ebene eines Michelin-Sterne-Restaurant, es ist viel zu lässig, manchmal warten Sie sehr lange, bis Sie serviert werden, sie dienen Ihnen über den Tisch und nicht von der Seite...

My wife I were in Bâle for a long birthday weekend we wanted to do something special for dinner on the main day. We couldn’t have chosen better. What we loved from arrival was the informal undercurrent; smart, classy, but not overly stuffy. The whole front of house team had just the right level of engagement friendliness, making you feel genuinely relaxed welcome. We had the 9 course Aroma Menu, with accompanying wine pairing. Tanja Grandits herself kicked off proceedings by personally delivering our 1st course, then, course after course, we were delivered an ever more sublime experience, with ‘surprise’ arrivals taking the course count to 12, all paired with truly stunning wines. Poesie aus der Küche und dem Weinkeller! Von Geschmack und Präsentation her reicht das Aromenmenü vom Amuse-Bouche bis zum Dessert. Jeder Gang für sich ist ein Genuss, aber das Gesamtbild verdient gerechterweise den Namen. Der Sommelier bietet zudem eine exquisite Reise durch Europa. Ein echter Genuss!

Das Essen hat mir nicht gefallen. Ich würde davon abraten, so etwas nicht als 5-Sterne-Küche zu bezeichnen. Im Hotel 3 König geben sie sich mehr Mühe.
