Made my regular trip there today and realized what a great deal we have in the north east. It's too hot to cook in the kitchen so the grill on the balcony will do the work tonight.Picked up their in house fresh made Italian fennel sausages at the meat counter and some nice soft cornetti buns to put them in from the bread area. A red pepper spread will provide a nice base for the sausages as will the grilled onions and mushrooms.The tomatoes actually smelled like tomatoes - and you know what I mean. Found some nice arugula to mix with the red onions and the tomatoes. They had fresh basil so a nice balsamic vinaigrette should work its magic tonight to bring it all together.For dessert they had...
I find the selection of meats and cheeses is very good and it is priced much less than supermarkets. I picked up meats and cheeses for my mother's 90th birthday party, plus bruschetta and a spicy olive tapinade-style spread. The guests told me how nice and fresh everything was. They also have great buns and breads, plus a supply of fresh herbs. There is a large selection of pastas and different sauces. We have limited options in Calgary when it comes to buying authentic Italian foods and groceries. I love visiting The Italian Store to check out the deals. You can find pretty much anything in this store. Sometimes you will find awesome prices but overall, it's generally a little pricey for these things. On this occasion specifically we were shopping for a fiftieth anniversary party for my nonna and nonno.The pastries are delicious (try the peaches)! and they have subs or paninis made fresh-to-go. Very good place for cold cuts, canned goods and traditional Italian snack foods or sweets.
You HAVE to go here. Besides their amazing selection of foods in the grocery part of the store (fresh, delicious deli meats, cheeses, olives, herbs)!, the restaurant part of the store is to-die-for! Everything is so fresh, and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The pizza and sandwiches are both delicious and I highly recommend you try both. The only downside is that they tend to sell out of lunchtime foods fairly quickly. You have to make sure you get there as close to lunchtime as you can. Here you will find countless food items, the authentic products of italien importe as well as food from many other Europeans. and Asian countries. the employees and owners are very friendly and always happy to help. during lunchtime it is a particularly busy time, as many times enjoy the diverse menu in the restaurant that is in the load. that was a banquet! home made Italian food in a very clean and friendly environment. I had auberginen parmaggina it was such a great part for $9.99 (two meals). I was too full to try one of the home baked...biscotti or the gelato that was sad, so also came back for the next day! win. enjoy a pleasant hour in the business part and bought some amazing gifts for my family not müll, really nice. food, a porcelain rose for toothpick, Italian tomato paste, olive oil in a ceramic door!
We stopped at the deli for a quick lunch and wow this is now going to be a destination for us. The pizza was excellent, we just returned from a trip to italy and I thought I should probably order something else because I might be too critical. To my surprise it was excellent pizza!We also treated ourselves to a italian sweet from the bakery counter, the peach was very good.
My second visit to the Italian Store was even better then the first. I had a wonderful shop all through the store and this time stayed for lunch in the lovely cafe. Wonderful selection of hot and cold dishes served by accommodating staff. Don't miss the bakery counter for a sweet dessert. Had a wonderfully tasty sandwich here today at lunch. Very fresh ingredients, meats popping with taste, quick service. Sandwich is drizzled with olive oil. The restaurant is part of a grocery store and has been a mainstay for years. Lots of desserts to choose from as well. Definitely worth stopping by if ur in the area.
