Tried here for dinner at 5:45 on a winter Saturday. Glad that we made reservations because the parking lot was full, and people were filling the lobby waiting for seats. (we got right in : . Very friendly service from Blair, I believe his name was. The atmosphere is standard Keg vibe, quite dark, huge overall, mix of booths tables, nice but simple decor. The free bread is a cute mini loaf, warm out of the oven with some whipped butter. We each ordered off the Classic steak menu so the meals came with a pretty large Caesar salad to start that had a good strong, garlic flavor, but not too overpowering. It has been a very long time since I have gone to a restaurant and not had one single complaint. From the moment we were welcomed in the door we were treated like family or friends. Four adults went for dinner to celebrate a birthday and it was our first time at the Dartmouth Keg. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. The food was just okay, overall not worth the prices. Apps, bread and drinks were served quickly. Water glasses were topped up constanty. The Keg burger was tasty, fries only warm, double baked potato delicious, steaks were small and overcooked and fish on the dry side. We started with the table bread, and I ordered a Keg Classic, which came with a massive blue cheese wedge salad—so many toppings, dressing, and blue cheese crumbles! For our main dishes, my husband had the blackened chicken with garlic mashed potatoes, and the chicken was incredibly juicy. I went for the filet mignon, which was cooked to perfection, and I really loved the mushrooms and sauce that accompanied it. Today, I find myself in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and given that we all need to eat, I was eager for a delicious meal. The Keg caught my eye, and from the moment I walked in, I sensed I was in for something special. The ambiance is fantastic, the service is outstanding, and the food was truly exceptional. For my appetizer, I ordered the tuna tartare, followed by the bleu cheese filet mignon paired with asparagus and a baked potato. While the potato was a bit tougher than the steak, the luscious topping on my filet really elevated the dish. That said, it still wasn’t the best steak I’ve ever had—only second best, and I’ve had my fair share of filets!
I really love this Keg location! There's plenty of parking, and the restaurant has a nice, open, modern design. It's well-lit, so I don’t feel like I’m dining in the dark. While I enjoy the Keg in general, this location is much better than the downtown one. The service was fantastic—our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuine. If she wasn’t sure about something, she didn’t hesitate to double-check, which I appreciated. The food arrived at the perfect pace, allowing us to relax and enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. One of the best steak places in Halifax. I've been to other Keg locations, but none of them can match this one, though I can't quite put my finger on why. The waitstaff were all lovely and engaging, the hostess was quick and attentive, and my son even received a complimentary full-sized cake for his birthday. With prices around $40-50 per plate (post-COVID), it isn’t cheap, but I highly recommend it. Definitely great value for the money spent!
was there first week it opened and you could not of asked for better service.Went back today and service was sub par for the prices they charge,saw our server twice ,to take our order and to bring the bill,not one time during the meal,would of been nice to have a refill on my pepsi or a glass of water maybe.Should maybe keep tabs on their servers to make sure they are doing their job.
The restaurant was quite busy, likely because it was the Monday following a long weekend. Our server was friendly and had great knowledge of the menu. I ordered the vegetarian meatloaf, and it was absolutely delicious! It was softer than I expected and didn't even require a knife. I really enjoyed it and will definitely order it again!
