I lived in the Twin Cities for 14 years. In that time I discovered the best bakery with the most amazing white cake with butter cream frosting, Wuollet! For years I held their cake up as the gold standard of all cakes of this type. I would buy it and take it with me out of state and even had my friend send it to me in the mail after I moved. Usually most of the cake survived the journey in tact but even if it got jostled too much and half of it was a pile of rubble, I didn 't care because the taste was magnificent and most of the ornate and beautiful roses and flowers survived the trip.Now, forget about buying this cake! I've lived in Robbinsdale for 5 years but never got the chance to stop in until today. I wasn't sure what to get so I asked what their best item was and they gave me a slice of Princess cake I think it was called. I was a little hesitant because I'm not really a big cake person but decided if the employees recommend it, I better give it a shot. OH. MY. WORD. It was AMAZING. Probably the best piece of cake I have ever had. All the flavors and textures were just perfect. I think it's safe to say I'm a cake convert.
My husband purchased a chocolate birthday cake from here. I love chocolate cake, but this cake was plain bad. It had two of the densest, most flavorless ‘chocolate’ layers I’ve ever had, separated by a layer of putty-like chocolate icing, topped with more grainy, putty-like icing. The chocolate flavor was nonexistent and the cake itself was so dense and heavy, it was like eating a rubber eraser. For $60, the cake was an expensive mistake.
DELICIOUS donuts! We went at 4pm in a Tuesday and to our surprise they still had a few options! They have cookies, cupcakes, donuts, and various other pastries as well as cakes custom too! I went with a maple raised and boy did I make the right choice! So so soft and fluffy and the maple frosting was perfection! I really hoped this place would be as wonderful as it has been for decades. Unfortunately, my Bavarian cream donut was a bit hard and too doughy. The chocolate frozen treat tasted slightly greasy, and the filling was thick and lacking in flavor. The coffee had potential, but it tasted watered-down, and they didn’t have half-and-half or dark chocolate for a Mocha Breve. I left disappointed.
I was disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. The staff seemed uninterested in providing assistance. I ordered a donut that needed just 8 seconds in a microwave to freshen up, but they don’t even have one. Who runs a bakery without a microwave? The coffee was mediocre—not what you'd expect from a family-run establishment. Overall, it wasn't a great experience.
This delightful little bakery offers a wonderful selection of treats. My favorites include the apple cheese danish, caramel pecan croissant, dark chocolate cupcakes, and the chocolate whipped cream torte.
