Came here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. The bar area had a few people hanging out and the restaurant area was pretty empty. I found a seat at the bar and was greeted immediately. I ordered an orange crush, which was pretty good. I started out with some mozzarella sticks. They came out hot and good. For my entree I ordered pepper steak and broccoli. The steak was served over rice. It had the normal peppers, onions, steak and gravy. The food came out somewhat cold. I was surprised because I waited about 15-20 mins for it. The broccoli was also cold. The food was warm enough to eat but didn't seem like it was just cooks. The restaurant has a pretty nice local restaurant feel; which I liked....
I wasn't pleased with the waitress I sat at the high top in the bar area where they assigned every table to a different waitress. My waitress stayed in the corner scrolling on her phone in the back.. I told the waitress at the table next to us when she brought waters out for her table that we didn't get any she said that's up to your waitress lol oh ok soooo when my lazy waitress finally gets up and off her phone I asked her and she says you have to ask for water ... I closed my tab then she added gratuity and asked me to use cash lol .... Lady get out of my face .... Anyway my crab balls were good the fries were ok the drinks were ok The happy hour prices decent There was a dj but the crowd...
**6-Year Update**: Consistency is essential. This restaurant has a true talent for delivering what customers want. I've dined here over 15 times since my last review, whether for lunch, happy hour, celebrations, or just because. They handled the challenges of COVID well, offering carryout when necessary and plenty of outdoor seating once it was safe. The service can be hit or miss, but the food is always reliable, delicious, and served quickly. The drinks are reasonably priced, well-mixed, and beautifully presented. Absolutely, I will continue to support this place!
City View is truly a hidden gem. The food is incredibly delicious. I had a Caesar salad for the first time and it was massive, full of flavor and generously dressed. The steak egg rolls are my absolute favorite, especially with their homemade dipping sauce—AMAZING! The catfish sandwich was delightful, with the fish perfectly fried, paired with my all-time favorite: fresh-cut fries! Our server was very attentive and took our orders right away. *3.9* What a cool local spot hangout and socialize with others in the Wodlawn area . The bar service is pretty good. Mixed drink are pretty decent. I tried the fried pork chops. Nice size, seasoned well. The sides were lacking. Opted for rice and gravy which was ok. Bar and restaurant draws a nice a crowd. Service takes a hit once they are over 50% filled. I would definitely go back and try some other items. I was impressed with the TWF Tequila. Very smooth. Could possibly stand-up to a decent Bourbon. Will definitely try other drinks on next visit.
We stopped in for a late lunch and was lucky enough to be there during Happy Hour. We had the nachos, whole fried wings and broiled crab balls and fries. All were reasonably priced for the happy hour menu and so were the drinks. Enjoyed this visit. The food came out piping hot!! It was chilly where we sat but otherwise comfortable. The server David was very friendly and attentive. We can be a handful sometimes and require great customer service. He did a good job.
Loved the Wednesday all day happy hour. The wings and drinks were great. Items were mostly $7 each on the special. Drinks and food items. Service was (dare I say) over attentive to the point that we actually cut things short and left. I believe we were asked about 15 times if everything was ok or if we needed anything . Nice crowd before 6 and appeared to be mostly ladies. The guys I was with were waaaaaaaay outnumbered lol.
This place has a great atmosphere on a Wednesday night! The DJ is fantastic, and the appetizers and drinks are both affordable and tasty. It’s the perfect way to shake off the workweek blues. While the setting isn’t extravagant, it really doesn’t need to be. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive during our visits to City View. I loved the nachos and crab egg rolls. The cheeseburger was nice and juicy the drinks was lacking but served its purpose but that's always on the bartender...crowd was mixed with young and old but still relaxing
