We arrived late in the evening, around 8:30PM on a random Tuesday night, and the restaurant was filled with people. Granted that it was a small place (40-50 seats), but still! There is an abundance of Japanese restaurants in Torrance, thanks for the city's hosting of the biggest Japanese carmakers in America. When I worked in Carson, I frequently drove to Torrance for some of the best Japanese food in Southern California. Fast forward to 2024, when all the carmakers moved to other states to lower cost, the number of options is dwindling, but I am very glad that Izakaya Hachi remained. Came to Izakaya Hachi with a group of 6 rather late (around 9pm) over LDW. There was a short wait, and parking lot was full when we arrived. Most of us weren 't too hungry, just in the mood for some light eats, so we only ordered from their food menu. This is a special but also authentic Japanese modern restaurant. It would be great to make reservations. Besides, the appetizers and octopus salad we also order the sashimi plate. They serve the fresh quality of all the seafood. Thus you barely taste the fish smell, instead the fresh seafood reflect the fresh sweet taste and mixed with YuZu or ponze sauce harmoniously. One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Torrance is Izakaya Hachi, located in a small strip mall near Manpuku. The convenience of ample parking in the lot is a plus. They have an extensive menu featuring Japanese dishes, ranging from sushi and yakitori to shabu shabu. Whenever I visit, I always start with their gobo chips, which are addictive and a unique offering from Hachi. It seems I never posted my follow-up review. I was in town again in March and tried to walk in solo after being turned down for takeout/delivery last time. Laughably, I was rejected again! The restaurant is quite small, similar to Sushi Morio in Honolulu, with maybe 5-6 tables and a counter. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Its so good. It's a bit expensive (tax tip) without drink comes out to around $60 but it is super authentic and it really feels like you stepped into a small spot in Tokyo! My favorites all around were the chicken meatball, chicken thigh and their potato croquette. Don't sleep on the pumpkin dessert either! I'm Japanese and whenever I crave for good Japanese food, I go to Hachi. Hands down the best authentic Japanese restaurant in South Bay. Food 10/10, service, 10/10, wine/sake selections 10/10! If you'd like good food/drink recommendations, ask for the awesome servers Shiho/Yume. They will tell you what's good for the day and you won't be disappointed!
