My first lunch break in Iowa was to take a solo spa to get Tacos in Malo. It was a home run at my first bat as Des Moines Rookie. Wow. I did it right, and they put my bag on the table with food when I went into the door. I have the avocado and fried onions on maizestortillas, and instead of getting a combo, I have the Portobello mushrooms as my side. So I could just put them on my tacos. I also have a side of fruit with sweet chilli sauce. It didn't want to have anything super spicy before my marathon, so I got the pico de gallo. The tacos were delicious, and the fresh tortillas seemed handmade. The fruit was so juicy and sweet, but the mare here was the Portobello mushroom like steak strips...
During our visit to Des Moines, we found this restaurant to be the best one we dined at. I highly recommend it! The service was excellent and the food was delicious with good flavor and generous portions. We tried the Chicken Quesadilla, ordering one with regular cheese and one with light cheese, and found that the light cheese option was the better choice, especially for those who are not big fans of cheese. We also enjoyed the Chicken Tortilla soup and the Jalapeño Chicken sandwich, both of which were extremely flavorful and well-prepared. The Malo Fries were also tasty. While the cost is slightly higher for a lunch meal, it is definitely worth a try!
I threw a surprise birthday party for my mom here this last weekend and all of the Malo staff, waiters and cooks were absolutely fantastic!!! The process in reserving the La Sala, or private party room, couldn’t have gone any smoother; with great communication from Anna, the general manager and Meghan, our hostess for our event, was an absolute angel and was so attentive and truly awesome at her role. Of course, my whole family, never having tried Malo before, were absolutely blown away by the food and overall atmosphere. My mom, family and I couldn’t be happier with our evening!
We were both super-hungry and I was very undecided! We added on the queso and gauc to the chips and salsa, and everything was great! The chips were super fresh tasting, and the Gauc was really good. I had the Posole Colorado soup, which was delicious and the Cuban with fries, both were excellent. My S.O. had the Mahi Mahi Torta with the fruit. The fruit is a winner! Absolutely love this eatery. The Dos Pescados was muy delicioso! I really want to give my experience 3 ?? because the bar service was absolutely ridiculous. My friend ordered her meal and it took an hour and a half to get. We were so perturbed bythe time we left. However, the food was good enough it made up for the poor service. Eat the Tacos! Half price margaritas are aWIN!

Delicious seafood nachos! I ordered a small appetizer as an entree. Best I've ever had! ???? My husband got the #17. He said it was very good, but the salsa was a little charred. We got the trio appetizer with salsa, guac, and queso, and enjoyed all three!Scrumptious, and we had leftovers!
My party of four visited this restaurant for the second time. I ordered the chicken taco and the steak taco, which came with my favorite Malo Fries. I loved it. On a busy Thursday night, there was a slight delay in getting seated at the restaurant, but the staff kept us updated regularly. The wait was definitely worth it. The nacho tots were delicious and the chicken dish was outstanding. I can't wait to return!
