I recently ordered a bag of chips at a restaurant. I was only informed AFTER I HAD PAID that there would be a wait for my order. Shouldn't they inform customers of this before they pay, so they can decide if they want to wait? Additionally, when asked if I wanted salt and vinegar on my chips, I requested only vinegar due to health reasons. However, when I got home, I found that salt had already been added without my knowledge. This lack of communication and disregard for customer preferences led me to throw away my last bag of chips from Martella's. It is disappointing that the restaurant did not own up to their mistake. I will not be returning as a customer.
A restaurant visit. A bit short staffed it appeared but the manager noticed and was straight round, rather than just sitting there frying. Ordered Large cod, chips and peas which all arrived freshly cooked and a nice big chunk of fish it was. Much too many chips and no scraggy bits, so next time I'll order a medium chips. Still the best in Chelmsford and worth a 5 minute drive across town, and I live in Springfield where the local chip shop is across the road, ok a couple of hundred yards but you get it, I know. Thanks again
Went here for fish and chips and was initially put off by the length of the queue. We therefore decided to eat in which turned out to be a good move as the service was fast. You have to pay more but it's worth it. The fish was lovely and the chips even better. We only ordered one drink as I didn't fancy one but nevertheless the waitress brought two glasses to our table showed great initiative. The staff are young but so efficient. I can highly recommend this place
Went here for fish and chips on Saturday evening and on ordering was to,d that there would be a wait for my large cod, however if I wanted a medium they had one ready. I decided to take the medium but when I got home the fish was nothing but batter very little fish. Although the chips were as nice as ever, the overall meal was poor and I advise anyone to wait for a freshly cooked piece of fish rather than take something that was probably reheated from lunch time

I ordered food through Just Eat and it took two and a half hours to arrive. I'm not sure if the delay was the fault of Just Eat or Martella's. Interestingly, I also ordered food from another restaurant at the same time through Just Eat, and that order arrived in 20 minutes. There was no explanation or apology for the delay. Unfortunately, when the food did finally arrive, the chicken burger was severely overcooked, almost burned.
We have been using M fir many years we have never received anything else but good food and excellent customer service. An old fashioned fish and chips shop and we cannot recommend them highly enough and we can’t wait for lockdown to ease up totally and spend time sitting in the Cafe part of the shop and eat our Friday meal again. Thank you for years of tremendous service to the Chelmer Village Community. JR
Always always get our fish and chips from here. It’s always fresh and the best in Chelmsford. They can always handle a big order if we have one too. Wouldn’t go elsewhere! The cod special is also a great deal and big portion, definitely recommend.
Went here for Friday fish and chips with my wife as it’s been a while done we ate in here. Service was excellent and food very good.
