My last visit to an Italian restaurant (NOT THIS ONE) was disappointing. I was sceptical about going to another but I can assure you that this was really good. The food was really good. I am Intrigued to go back and check out their veal. The service was also excellent as they allowed me to order something I wanted which was only on their lunch menu. But they adapted. The restaurant itself is a little pokey with not much character. It looks a little jaded. The building is also narrow and therefore the experience is similarly narrow. There is another part of the restaurant downstairs which looks unused and the visible storage inside the door suggests this. The whole stairs, toilets, downstairs...
Visited Saturday evening. Had to wait 15/20 mins for our table and with nowhere to wait was literally standing next to other diners which is not ideal. Ordered starters, mains and drinks after having to ask several times to order. Two of the 3 starters turned up, asked where the 3rd was to be told given to table next to us ! Asked where the bread was, toast bought out, no oil/vinegar , had to ask again. Next the waitress walked past and due to tables crammed in spilt water from ice bucket down back and on jacket. Accidents happen but this was becoming a joke. Ordered more drinks , then waited for one of them, had to ask. By this point our patients had worn thin, called waiter over who apolog...
Had a lovely meal with my girlfriend, she had the muscles to start in a beautiful tomato, garlic and white wine sauce which came with crusty sourdough bread for dipping and I had the Scallops which were equally good. For mains I had the wild boar tortellini in a white wine and mushroom sauce, if you like tortellini this will be the best you ever have! My girlfriend had the pollo de olio which was a chicken, bacon and broccoli pasta. Every mouthful of everything we ate was just as good as the last. Dinner for 4, good portions, starters we had were chessy garlic bread, soup and calamari, good portions and was great. Mains had lasagne, mushroom risotto, pasta with seafood and chicken in a type of creamy masla sauce. Risotto, lasagne and pasta, very heavy and very stogey, pasta was over cooked very mushy not the best, however plenty of seafood and flavor was good. Lasgna was not great, a lot of tomotoe sauce not a trational lasagne at all. Risotto was OK again very heavy and rice overcooked. We were told by lots of friends and family to visit Olio’s. We originally booked a table for Valentine’s Day but due to illness we had to cancel. We had to reschedule a few times due to our own poor planning but they were so accommodating and even let us transfer the deposit we had put down. When we arrived we were taken care of and the food was great, especially the burrata! We are moving to Chelmsford soon so this will definitely be our date night restaurant !
I’d heard so much about this restaurant and I finally made it to the original Olio in Chelmsford Warm welcome by the staff and friendly and good service Fabulous menu plenty of real authentic Italian dishes to choose from . I had a simple starter Tomato and mozzarella but it was exquisite. My dad had the mussels in a very good sauce My main was steak and an excellent choice V
Saturday night, lively an d busy but very prompt friendly service. My husband asked if they could do spaghetti carbonara (not on menu) and it was no problem to them. I also had pasta and it was lovely. Sowerethe pprawns and pork belly. Itdidgetvery warm which made mefeelabit unwell. But can't fault it and so nice to find an authentic Italian restaurant.
Me and my husband came here for our anniversary dinner and it was outstanding! My love for Italian food has accelerated and we will defiantely revisit. Big thankyou to all who made our day so special

Came for my mums birthday, absolutely amazing meal lovely service. Definitely recommend to anyone the best food ever!
