After being mesmerized by The Gertrude Street Projection Festival, on our way back home, we ended up going to this eatery for dinner by fluke. Ended up ordering Lemon Chicken, Stir Fried Curry Beef, Stir Fried Squid and Vegetable and Special Fried Rice. We were served complimentary Tea during our wait for the food. The very friendly Manager / Attendant managed to get our order in 5 minutes time and oh Boy, everything was so perfectly cooked and tasted yum. I have been going to this restaurant monthly for 22 years with my wife and 3 kids (two of whom are adults) and I have lot of friends that eat here as well. To be completely honest, at the risk of sounding boring, we have always had the same meal. We start of with Rice Paper rolls (4) that come with a plate of peanut sauce. These are beautiful to eat. We then have a plate of small spring rolls, vegetable, pork, and prawn which come with lettuce, mint and chilli fish dipping sauce. They get knocked off fairly quickly. Together with a large family group we had dinner at the Thanh Phong restaurant. The service and welcome was friendly and the place was cheery and brightly lit. It was our first visit but several people in the group had eaten there several times before and recommended the place for its food. The rice paper rolls with prawns and pork swell as a vegetarian version were fine. The goi ga (Vietnamese chicken coleslaw) was also quite decent. This is my regular Vietnamese Restaurant, we travel a distance to eat there after having tried so many different Vietnamese Restaurants around Melbourne. It is not an elegant restaurant, just a well presented, clean place with excellent food. The portion sizes are generous and flavoursome, the Pho (soups) are the best! The spring rolls here are wonderful with plenty of lettuce,dipping sauce and mint.It's just wonderful value for money and as previously stated beautiful flavours and clean with attentive staff. Try it , you won't be disappointed!
Mini pork/prawn spring rolls which they make on the premises....wrapped in the Vietnamese mint and lettuce....fast and great value. They also have vegan versions.Then, go the sliced beef pho- about $10 bucks but be sure to add chilli and soy concoction to taste. Free green tea...and plenty of it. I have been going for years business, family, friends and solo. Lunch and dinner. They have high chairs if kids come along but don't let that put you off; the place just seems to accommodate everyone from suits to trackie dax.
This was our first time here, but dining with friends who eat here often and recommended same.Staff were a little on the grumpy side, but this appearance may have been exaggerated due to the limited English being spoken. In any event, the food came out very quickly. Everything tasted very fresh and clean with plenty of flavour. 4 adults and 2 children ate for $150. Very reasonably priced. Parking can be an issue in this area though, so be prepared to walk a little if you're not lucky enough to find a car park nearby.
Came here on recommendation, but found the service dismissive, slow and unfriendly. The food at best was average, maybe it was the dishes we ordered but nothing stand out. It is a basic restaurant, nothing flash but pricing on the higher end for what you get and the quality of the food. Rice paper rolls were nice!

I enjoyed the food, but they didn't ask if we wanted another drink or if our food was good. They seemed impatient for us to leave, even though it was 9.30 and they dont close til 10
