Took my 23 year old son to the Coastal Cafe for brunch - first time for both of us. The vibe was a hit for him, and the flavourful fare had both of us in awe. The place was busy with a mostly younger crowd. A little loud, but a "good energy" kind of loud, if that makes sense. The staff were smoothly efficient; very friendly, and we were seated quickly. My son and I each had the "Durty Bird" with home fries as a side. The seasoned chicken, egg, bacon, guacamole, all made a great flavour combination that had us both nodding and uttering groans of satisfaction as we tackled these bad boys. This will be a new favourite spot for us, for sure. Tip: Grab a clipboard menu off the wall when you walk...
This place was recommended to us by a local friend. They open at 9am (odd to open so late for a breakfast place) and their MO is odd. You grab a menu and sit a table of your choice. Then you go up to the counter and order your food and drink and pay for it. Someone then brings you your food and drink. Why not have serving staff??? I had the durty bird - a somewhat greasy buffalo chicken thigh on a English muffin with two poached eggs and home fries on the side with salad. The chicken was breaded but soaking in oil. Flavour was good, but not what I envisioned from the menu description. My partner had the McVegstra which he did NOT enjoy. Odd place with odd food combinations. And overpriced. W...
We enjoyed a delicious brunch here. I had The Durty Bird and would highly recommend it. This is a small unfussy cafe that gets to the point - good food and service! Upon our entering the place looked packed! The lineup moved quickly however, with only about a 5-7 minute wait. After placing our orders we waited outside (with our morning tea) about 10 minutes in the sunshine, until a waitress came and indicated that our table was ready. Once seated our wait was about 15 minutes and worth every minute. We enjoyed a hot home cooked styled breakfast and couldn't have asked for better flavours. A big thumbs up for The Coastal Cafe - you won't leave hungry or disappointed!
We discovered this place because it was recommended in the welcome guide in the apartment we rented in Halifax a few blocks away. We arrived around 10:30am on Canada Day and there was a line up out the door, which is always a good sign for a breakfast spot. It took us about 30 mins to get our table, and it was well worth the wait. Very cool atmosphere, fantastic service, and amazing food. We had the Durty Bird and The Elvis, and both were excellent (their Habanero Buffalo chicken is very spicy for anyone who is bothered by that). Great portion sizes and reasonably priced. Also excellent coffee. Highly recommend this place.
Costal is quaint little breakfast/lunch spot.We were in town to see the buskers and had to checkout a good breakfast spot.The server at the counter recommended the glorious sunrise so I order that.It was awesome. Super tasty and super quick. Salmon was on point and the sour dough was very fresh and toasted just right.My friend had the oeufs d'ete and she was super happy with her meal.Her omelette was cooked correct and the brie was very creamy.Get to this spot i ya can! its very much worth the wait.
I've tried on a few occasions to have breakfast/brunch at The Coastal but gave up because of the wait - always an eager line-up of patrons! I finally got my chance this week and it's easy to see why people are willing to line-up - the food and the service are amazing! I have Celiac and as soon as I let them know they went well beyond what many fine-dining restaurants have done for me to accommodate. I had the McVegstal with a delicious cappuccino, and everything was superb! I can't wait to go back!
This place was recommended to us by several locals we kept meeting and we just had to put this on our list. We stopped in for a Sunday brunch around 11am. There was a line, but it moves fast and SO WORTH THE WAIT. My husband had the Los Huevos with chicken and I had the Durty Bird. Both had the right amount of spice mixed with sweet and absolutely delicious!!! I keep dreaming of this meal...
We we re not in the city 24 hours and we were making plans to have lunch at this cafe..and it was as good as it was last visit..fresh ingredients..flavourful brunch menu that makes you want to lick the plate clean....we had the dirty Bird and london fog and I will agree the fog IS the best I have ever had
Read about this place and was glad I did. Get there when they open or you'll wait. But the wait is worth it. Had the yogi berry and a latte. Both were spot on. Funky vibe. Order at the counter but meal delivered to your table.
