This was a truly wonderful and beautiful culinary experience. Five Fishermen is the oldest restaurant in Halifax, and they've modernized the decor quite nicely. I understand that many tourists are looking for seafood, but I really wish there were more places that catered to vegan diets so we could have a great dining experience as well. They had a new chef in the kitchen, so they were in the midst of transitioning menus. However, they do plan to introduce a dedicated vegan menu soon. In the meantime, there were a few vegan options available, with some slightly modified dishes prepared with the expertise of the exceptionally professional and attentive staff. The food was excellent, beautifully presented, and featured intriguing spices. However, my only complaint would be the portion sizes and the overall value. For instance, three scallops for $19 felt a bit excessive. There were also very few vegetables accompanying the salmon. On a positive note, the risotto was reasonably priced. I opted out of wine with my meal, as $20 for an 8 oz glass seemed steep. It's puzzling why wine prices are 40% higher in Halifax compared to the valley. Despite these issues, the service was exceptional, and I had a very enjoyable evening, though I definitely couldn't afford to dine here often!
Customer service is great. Friendly and helpful. The food is okay and the menu is short. We only ordered appetizers/shareables as the main course options did not appeal to us and were overpriced in our view. Everything was overpriced really but for $142 including tax we had two drinks each, chowder each, a caesar salad and crab cakes we shared. The complimentary tiny bite to start with our aperitif was nice as was the complimentary shared tiny chocolate dessert at the end. Overall, an enjoyable time but too expensive for what we got.
In truth, I found the restaurant to be overrated. My martini was a 2 oz poor, barely filling the martini glass, and the olives hardly qualified as olives suitable for a martini. The house specialty dish was in my opinion comprised of basic quality seafood and not of the high-quality seafood I would have expected for the price and location. I live in the Boston area and have access to much better meals at a lower cost.
There were plenty of options for both vegetarians and omnivores. My partner and I enjoyed a fantastic meal on the last day of our vacation. The selection was impressive, the wine was excellent, and the service was top-notch. It was a bit pricey, but definitely worth it.

The winter menu is small, but delicious. We enjoyed 6 of the appetizers all excellent! The 5 Fish main is exceptional. Also loved the smoked cocktails.
